There is a right reason and wrong reason for tithing. Read the quoted verses and think long and hard.

[Right reason]: When the true teachings of God's word are supported, God's Kingdom grows.

According to scripture, 2 John 1:9-11, Christ's doctrines only are to be supported. True teachings lead others towards God and not away from Him.

[Wrong reason]: When false teachings are supported, deception, unnecessary burden and bondage to those false teachings grow. False teachings lead billions of people away from God. Many are told they must show obedience to God and give. It is true, we must show obedience, but, not for the wrong reason.

So many are led to believe they can buy there way into heaven through their tithes. To think you can is a selfish, self- centered act right from the start. Who would want you to believe salvation and blessing could be bought? Just out of curiosity, how would the materially poor pay for them? Would they be left out because they don't have money? Who deceives the whole world? Read Revelation 12:9 for your answer. Might be something to contemplate on.

Which reason would be the better reason for tithing?

Some do actually teach and share truths from God's word. Many do not (false prophets). It is really quite simple. Verify for yourself what is being taught, truth or something else. See 1 John 4:1, try the spirits. Tithe to support true teachings of Christ's doctrines only. Do your homework. If you want more wisdom so you can understand God's word better, ask Him for it. See James 1:5. Another way that will help you to spot false teachings is to study the Bible completely yourself. How else will you know what it actually says?

Also, you can't buy your way into heaven. Many are led to believe it is only about them and their obedience. Obedience is important, but, tithing must be done for the right reason first. See “right reason” above. What happens to someone that can't afford to tithe; are they left out of heaven due to not having enough money? You might want to think that over.
